Update on recycled plastic markets

Emamou Team

On 4-5 November, Emamou team joined the Plastic Recycling Show Europe – Exhibition and Conference in Amsterdam. Despite the COVID-19 impacts which impeded travelling and
movement, we saw a high number of attendance not only from European countries, but also from Asia and North America. We also saw that committed and reliable recyclers sold out their products quickly as demand for recycled plastics of good quality is high.

There are many take-home messages that also reflect our vision and sustainability assessment for the plastic market and sector. Our team would like to share the key points for the recycled market as below.

High-quality regranulates have a promising market: Companies and factories using plastics are committed to using recycled plastics to their product packaging. This is partly thank to the strict European regulations, and partly thanks to the consumer awareness and pressures from environmental NGOs. Whilst
low-quality regranulates can only be used to a limited range, high-quality regranulates can be easily replaced virgin plastics and therefore have a larger range of applications.

Certification: Recycled plastics should be certified to reflect the efforts that committed recyclers and plastic actors are doing for a sustainable plastic market. Whislt RecyClass and EuCertPlas are the two popular European certificates for traceability of plastic materials and on the quality of recycled content in the end-product, Recycled Claim Standard and Global Recycled Stardard are the highest certificates at the global level that any business should aim for.

Transparency: Recycled content and sourcing of regranulates are also important points that all involved actors need to communicate transparently to any interested parties. Through transparency and commitment to tackle climate impacts and enable a circular and bioeconomy, involved stakeholders have
the power to gain trusts from consumers and external stakeholders, and grow their business in a sustainable way.

If you would like to know more information about sustainable plastics, we are happy to response to you quickly.
